RFL Mug Commercial: A Cool Ad That's Totally Out of This World!

What is this ad? I mean, how cool is this ad! It's fast, fun and exciting -- The thing that we rarely see in Bangladeshi ads.

I am talking about the new RFL Mug Commercial. This commercial has all the things that the KPL's introductory ad missed. It has well known, popular cast that draws attention; it has well-retouched, well-planned, naughty scenes that are fun to watch; it has highlighted the product enough; has the present trend -- the selfies!

Here, take a look:

The ad shows that a wife is selfie-addict. Whatever she does, she gets a selfie of herself doing that -- sometimes alone, sometimes with her husband or her child. She gets through her day by taking selfies. In those selfies it is seen that she uses the mugs for different purposes. This shows different ways that the mugs can be used. I love the last scene where the wife has a fever and husband pours water on her hair with an RFL mug. Still she takes selfies! This scene alone steals the show!

I love the different scenes that the ad highlighted the use of the Mugs (The products). Usually Bangladeshi ads now have less thought in them. But not this ad. This ad shows many ways that a Mug can be used and at the same time taking a selfie!

There are so many scenes in this ad, but it happens so fast that it is fun to watch.

With this ad RFL is targetting the young wives of this generation who have tasted the fun of taking selfies. The central character is young for this reason.

Plastic products had those dark, low quality, just-for-publicity ads a few years ago. But not anymore! Plastic industry had good ads before. But with this ad plastic products will get a new honour. It will improve the brand value and that will eventually make using RFL products a matter of pride. It will hopefully be a part of a fashionable metropolitan life that would be well greeted by the new generation of housewives.

This ad will definitely give the RFL brand a boost!

KPL, Potential Brand with a Bad Ad

KPL which is a plastic products brand, recently launched with a TV Ad that is repeatedly shown over the TV channels.

I personally haven't used any of their products, but the ad does not seem to attract me that much. RFL & Bengal are doing so well in Bangladesh on the plastic product industry. KPL might have had a good chance of competing with them. But this ad is not a good start. It neither defines the "KPL" brand and what it stands for nor it has any memorable catch phrases or ideas to make me buy one of their products. And let's forget weak art direction.

Let's see the ad...

If I ask to you now:
What is the slogan of KPL?
Why is KPL any different than other plastic product-company?
What does KPL stand for?
Why buy a KPL product?

... can you answer these questions? May be, but I know I can't.
But as a new brand these are things that need to be positioned well in my mind.

The video ad just seems like a cheap duplicate of a contemporary foreign style format with unrythmical jingle of un-related, illogical clips with weak acting all put together. An ad is supposed to attract people to buy stuff, not to irritate people.

When Bengal has recently launched a "I'm not plastic" ad, KPL should've done better, and come prepared with a strong message. See this Bengal ad to see how they've positioned their brand:

If any way this ad would've worked is with some good & clever acting, some strong art-directed scenes, some good graphics/animations on the product.

Maybe you also noticed how much the products were ignored in the ad. This kind of ignorance can be forgiven for an already established brand, because the customers have seen their product already, they don't need to see them that much. But for a new brand they should've been more practical and focused on showing their product. After all, its what they'll be selling, not the actresses.

This brand should have done some more research on market on what people want to see in a plastic product that others don't provide. They are not at all well equipped yet. Let alone other things, they don't even have a website, in this time and age!

I don't have hatred for this brand. But I don't have anything to like about it either. Hope their products do the talking now.

Robi is helping Internet.org to enter in Bangladesh

[ UPDATE: Internet.org is now available in Bangladesh. You will have to install this app and use a Robi SIM card to avail this service. (Click here for instructions) Another matter of shame for Airtel, they are also announcing it on their website. And they have mentioned "Robi" in the news. Airtel should've taken steps earlier. ]

Robi is one of my favorites. As a brand they have extremely understood what Bangladesh is all about and portrayed it well in their campaigns, ads, designs, and slogan as well. On the other hand they always promote a sense of "good". Whether they are promoting the tant industry or promoting helping people in their ads, they create a sense of responsibility as a brand. This is certainly one of the most positive, well-suited and well thought brand design of Bangladesh.

As a "good-bringer" brand, Robi, the third most used telecom/mobile communication brand in Bangladesh, is assisting internet.org to come into service in the country. While there are rumor that other companies expecially one giant brand (you can guess which one) opposed the entering of internet.org in Bangladesh, Robi has always supported this initiative from the beginning.

Internet.org coming to Bangladesh

Internet.org is a service introduced by Facebook. If initiated in Bangladesh, anybody can use some websites free of cost by logging in to internet.org. This will significantly lower the internet cost from the customer end.

The telecom giants opposed internet.org and introduced various Facebook packs just so that people don't see the need for it. But it is finally happening. Internet.org is going to be launched in Bangladesh.

If it is launched you will be able to browse some websites for free by installing their app on mobile or on PC. At first some government websites will be available for free browsing. Eventually there will be other websites available.

What is a Brand and Brandz in Bangladesh

I just started this blog about "brandz" in Bangladesh. Before going to other articles I just want to quickly point out what is a brand. After all, it is what we are going to read about.

Welcome!

I have started this blog today, on 5 May 2015, to write little notes about the brands in BD. Bangladesh has a vast population. Count me as well as a part of that population. They use many brands each and everyday. Some are closer to their hearts.
